Late Web Wednesday Additions

* This just in: Jon Hood has committed to the Wildcats tonight and revealed that HE was the ‘mystery recruit’. Noted that he committed a month ago but wanted to keep it quiet because he had finals coming up and did not want the stress of everyone coming up to him. You can read the story on Catspause here. Hood becomes the second player from the 2009 class to commit to UK joining GJ Vilarino of Texas. Hood is the #39 prospect in the 2009 class but Rivals.com’s Jerry Meyer (Lead recruiting analyst for the #1 recruiting site in the nation) said in his article about Hood that he is “Presently ranked the No. 39 prospect in the class of 2009, Hood is knocking on the door of five-star status.”

** The second note is that JUCO guard Bobby Maze made the obvious choice and committed Tennessee today. While comparing UK and UT he said UT was like a ferrari and UK was only a Range Rover. Judging by that video I posted yesterday I did not want him anyway.

Recruiting Trail

* Peyton Siva, a 5′11″ guard from the 2009 class, has been quoted as saying that he is now being recruited by Kentucky. Siva is the #31 player in the nation according to Rivals.com and is a four-star prospect. Siva appeared to be close to signing with UofL but has since put that on hold because of all of the offers he has been getting and all of the attention he has been recieving. Siva is from Seattle, Washington, you can check out the story written about him by Jeff Drummond HERE

** Another 2009 prospect that has been recieving attention from UK is a guard by the name of Darius Morris. Morris is a 6′3″ shooting guard but would most likely play point guard in college, he lives in Los Angeles, California and has scholarship offers from Washington State and Michigan. Michigan is his favorite due to the fact that they have been recruiting him the longest. Jeff Drummond also wrote a story abou this kid which you can read HERE.

(John Wall)

*** It is being reported that Travis Ford, the new head coach at Oklahoma State University and former UK player, has made made a visit to John Wall at his school. Wall is considered to be the clear #1 point guard in the class of 2009 and several teams are after him including UK. Wall is rated as the #9 player in the nation and #1 amongst point guards. The teams to be appear to be NC State and Memphis (Especially Memphis).

**** As most of you know by now Vinny Zollo committed to UK on his visit monday. Zollo is apart of the 2010 class and is currently 6′8″ although doctors said he could grow all the way to 7′0″. Zollo is from Ohio and becomes the 1st player in the class of 2011 to commit to the Cats. Zollo is apparently considering a transfer to Lexington Catholic or Scott County High Schools. Scott County High School is the school that Dakota Euton, a 2010 UK commit, and 2010 UK target Chad Jackson attend school.

***** Verdell Jones, one of the last remaining 2008 prospects, committed to Indiana today which was actually a shocker. Jones, 6′4″ 160lbs., cut his list down to Minnesota, UK, and Indiana and was expected to pick Minnesota but landed on the Hoosiers, becoming IU’s 4th three-star recruit of the 2008 class.

****** Jeff Drummond of Catspause had an interview yesterday with Deshawn Painter as well. Painter is rated as the #22 prospect in the 2009 class and the #3 center in the country. Painter has become one of the most recruited players in the nation over the past year or so. The teams that have been after Painter the hardest are Florida, Virginia, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Clemson, NC State and Kentucky. He was thought to be close to committing to Florida but it seems as though that has been put on hold or ended.
