Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt – Post Game

Kentucky did NOT make it easy for themselves today at home against Vanderbilt. They built a 16 point lead early in the second half but that lead slowly was dwindled down until it wasn’t even there any more.
Led by the usual suspects Patrick Patterson, Ramel Bradley & Joe Crawford, UK pulled out their first good win of the year knocking off a previously unbeaten Vanderbilt squad that had won 4 straight games against the Wildcats, including two in Rupp Arena. Patrick Patterson dominated AJ Ogilvy, the freshman star for Vandy, down low for 23 pts and 12 rebounds while Ramel Bradley had probably the biggest performance of his career. Bradley was scoreless in the first half but tallied 18 pts in the second half and two overtimes, including the game clencher in the second overtime by hitting a pull up jumper with about 15 seconds left to put the Wildcats up by 4. Every time UK needed a defensive stop or basket Bradley took on the challenge and that is what makes him the leader of UK.
Kentucky did exactly what they had to do by taking out one of the two stars on Vanderbilt’s roster. AJ Ogilvy finished with only 16 pts and 5 rebounds, below his average in both. Ogilvy was contested on every shot and shot a very poor percentage throughout the game. Shan Foster on the other hand played a huge role in the comeback. He finished with 17 points, only one more than Ogilvy, but he had many huge baskets. Foster hit the game-tying three with 2.0 seconds left in regulation and hit a bunch of tough shots with hands in his face in the overtimes. If Kentucky can just contain the stars for the opponent they are playing they will be right in every game they play.
The next game for Kentucky is at Mississippi State on January 15th and the obvious key for Kentucky in winning is slowing down All-SEC point guard JaMont Gordon of MSU. As many Wildcat fans will remember, Gordon hit the game-tying three against UK in the SEC tourney and eventually led the Bulldogs to the upset win. My prediction for the game is a 71-63 win for UK, I think Bradley comes out and plays great again with 19 points.

Derrick Jasper left the game today with what is being reported as a MCL sprain in his knee. UK will monitor the injury very closely according to Billy Gillispie. Jodie Meeks did not play due to the hip flexor and Michael Porter played only 1 minute due to his injury.
